“As a retired Police Officer, I’d seen where kids like Joe ended up. It was often like history repeating itself. A life of crime and drugs. A pretty grim future.
"Anne and I had space at home and knew we’d got the experience to make a difference.
"It’s not been easy. Joe still struggles to control his anger. Changing a lifetime of behaviour takes time but he’s starting to accept that Anne and I are in it for the long-haul.
"The practical, emotional and financial support we get from Staffordshire County Council means that we can dedicate all our time to helping Joe.
"More and more we’re seeing bits of ‘normality’ that mean such a lot to him. Just making friends, playing on the x-box with them, being a typical teenager. It makes it all worthwhile.”
