"Take the next step!"

Who are the children who need Foster Care?

The children may be of any age, from 0-18 years old, who need to be looked after outside their family home for a period of time. This may be for a few days, a few months or longer. The children will often have brothers and sisters who also need to be looked after and wherever possible they will be placed together. The children may be White, Black, Asian or have mixed parentage.

Why do children need Foster Carers?

Most children do better in families than in children’s residential homes. Children need to have a positive experience of family life.

Why can’t they live with their families?

  • Parents request their child is looked after because of illness, family breakdown, or behavioural difficulties.
  • Social Workers remove children from their families to protect them from physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect or abuse of drugs/alcohol by their parents.
  • Young people have to leave their families at the direction of the Courts because of their offending behaviour.
