What skills do I/We need to become a Foster Carer?
People who can provide a safe, caring home, and who have the time, patience and commitment to give to a child.
You would need to show an understanding of the needs of a child who has been separated from their family.
People who can work as part of a team.
You will be expected to work closely with professionals from the Social Services Department, Health Department and Education.
People who can ask for, and use support.
You will have your own social worker who will offer you help, advice and support.
People who are prepared to learn.
You will be required to attend a training course prior to your approval as a foster carer. You will also be expected to continue to attend training courses once you are approved. A range of courses are offered covering a variety of subjects relevant to fostering.
