We aim to complete your assessment within six months from the time that we receive your formal application, after attending the Skills to Foster Course.
This depends on the category and number of children for whom you are approved, and the children who need to be looked after at any one time.
There is no upper or lower age limit, but we do like you to have had some life experience and if you are an older person, to be healthy, fit and active to enable you to enjoy the challenges of Fostering.

Yes – you will need to have a spare bedroom to foster.
Children from 0-18 may require fostering. The age of child you may care for will depend on your own experience, skills and preference and on the ages of any children you already have.
Yes. But this may depend on other factors including whether you have the space, especially bedroom space, and time to care for more than one foster child. We are always actively recruiting foster carers for sibling groups of 2 or 3 children.
You can be employed or unemployed. If you are employed you need to be flexible to be available to meet the needs of a child, for example to be at home when the child leaves for school and returns from school and to be available during school holidays or when a child is ill.
You will receive an allowance for caring for a child. This will cover the expenses of looking after a child. In addition we have a Payment for Skills scheme which recognises foster carers' skills.
You will be supplied with essential equipment, e.g. beds, bedding, bedroom furniture.
You will have your own social worker who will support and supervise you. You will also have the opportunity to meet with other foster carers at our regular Support groups.
