Can I / We Foster?
We welcome interest from everybody irrespective of race, culture, and disability or sexual orientation.
Your Current Family Situation
You do not have to have children of your own. If you have children we would be looking to ensure that there was sufficient space for all the children. It may not be appropriate for foster children to share a bedroom.
Age
Any age may be considered although a reasonable level of maturity will be required.
Health
Your health will be looked at and you will have to have a full medical examination. The Medical Adviser is unlikely to endorse the placement of a child under 2 years of age in households where somebody smokes. This is to safeguard the child's health.
Relationship Status
You can be married, single or living with a partner. If you are in a partnership it is essential that both of you are involved and committed to fostering.
Employment
You can be employed or unemployed, although we would expect your work commitments to be flexible in order to meet the needs of the child. This means being available in school holidays for school age children.
We do need to know that you are financially secure.
Criminal Offences
There are certain criminal offences that would prevent you from being approved as a foster carer. This includes any offences against children and may include offences of a violent nature. All offences are looked at and the circumstances of the offence will be taken into account when considering your application.
